Now Looking For A Wealthy Single Woman
So. How about that stock-market? I suppose I've never been what one would call rich, but I had ambitions that I was at least working towards becoming moderately well-off until the stock-market took a dive. Now I'm starting to think about checking out a wealthy dating site so I can start the process of marrying into money. I'm only joking, of course. I mean, I wouldn't kick a wealthy single woman out of my bed if I happened to find her there, but that really isn't the issue.

Military Wives In Love
Given the headlines that I've been reading over the last couple of years, I've had lots of opportunities to wonder about how difficult it must be for all the military wives that are here, at home, wondering how their husbands are doing overseas. Of course, there are many men with wives overseas who are in the same predicament, but it's mostly because I have a friend that is married to an Army Lieutenant and she has a hard time when he's gone that I've been thinking about military wives. I don't think that they met on a military dating site, but I do know that my friend often recommends that her girlfriends check them out.

Plump Gay Men Take Over!
It's Gay Pride Week here in this anonymous city in which I live (for the sake of this blog, we'll call this city "Cupidia"). There's a massive gay population here in Cupidia - in fact, the gay neighborhood (for the sake of this blog, we'll call this area the "Gayborhood") has a level of prominence and mainstream acceptance that it appears on government maps and tourist brochures. One of the many, many large events in this celebration of gayness is the Gay Pride Parade, featuring the kind of insane costumes, over-the top camp, and embodiments of physical perfection that you would expect from these festivities. The last little bit has always bugged me a little - I can understand why the gay community would want to put their best foot forward and show off the hottest guys and gals that money can buy, but where are the plump gay guys (and gals)? I refuse to believe that every gay man on this planet looks like a model for Abercrombie and Fitch.

False Advertising And Meeting Famous People Online
Even when people are out looking for romance they tend to be a little suspicious of strangers. Come to think of it, maybe people are particularly suspicious when they're looking to meet that special someone. It's an understandable tendency. No one wants to meet a scary weirdo or get hurt. People's fears are even more pronounced when it comes to dating personals. On top of their usual fears, no one wants to fall victim to flagrant false advertising. It would just add insult to injury. A lot of people use these sites and find it worth the risk, but did anyone ever stop and thing maybe there was something to be said for false advertising?

Dating And Irony
I was talking with a friend the other day about the irony of the dating world. We were talking, specifically, about dry spells. They happen to the best of us, and I can live with that, but I wish I had some conception of what makes or breaks an image. There are times when you're just too busy to meet people. You've got a lot of work to do, you keep your head down and stick to your routine. What Makes A Good Love Match Test?
What I find most interesting about matchmaking sites is that they usually offer something that we'll call a love match test. The tests offered on such sites vary pretty widely from fairly simple profiles allowing the system to match people that, say, like comedy films but don't like pets. Some sites get a lot more in-depth and go so far as to provide complete personality tests to try to find other people with complimentary or compatible personalities. The simpler tests only really seem good at screening out serious, deal-breaking biographical facts. For instance, getting together with a veterinarian or someone else who specifies that you must love dogs when you're deathly allergic to animals might not be the best idea. In cases like this, the no-pets issue will save you a lot of time. Now, saving time is great, but I find the more complicated love match tests more attractive because they are geared towards opening up your options.

How Beautiful Love Can Be
We've all experienced it, so we know it to be true, but I'm going to go ahead and say it one more time. Love is hard. I know I'm not revealing any kind of big secret, but it's important sometimes to sit back and think about how beautiful love can be if one puts the effort that's required into making it work. My father used to say, "It's better to love someone than to be in love with them. Better for both of you." These days I think that I understand what he means. There is a difference between being in love with someone and loving them, as funny as that may sound. It's not that sugary feeling that one gets, that feeling that's like eating a box of chocolates, that makes love last. It's effort. Whether you've just met someone through dating personals or have been with them for years, the only way to make a relationship last longer than the end of today is to put in some hard work.

I love sailing and I think I've just about saved up enough cash to buy a boat. Not a big boat, but something I can run away in for days. Now I just need to find a sweet, fit woman to take with me. The Loss of Trust In Symbiotic Relationships
I hope I'm not about to sour anyone's mood. I don't think anyone should give up on the possibility of truly symbiotic relationships and I do think that if you're having a hard time finding someone right for you, that it's important to keep checking the dating personals until you find someone you're really happy with. Socially Awkward, But Awesome, Fit Guy
Sometimes the world just doesn't make sense to me. I'm not naive and I don't expect the world to actually turn out the way I think it should, but on the other hand it's difficult to deal with a world that defies all logic. I have this awesome friend who has the most difficult time hitting it of with girls. He's a nice, thoughtful, educated, well-off and fit guy, but something always goes wrong. It's got nothing to do with his looks, he's the kind of guy you'd probably expect to meet if you're into fitness dating. I think it's just that he doesn't understand how to interact with someone for whom he has feelings.

I'm not the kind of person that has 'celebrity crushes.' I don't watch movies or television and dream of being with some sexy starlet. I don't fantasize about being some movie star's date to the Oscars or anything like that. There is one gal, however, for whom I do have a particular fondness. For some reason Sofia Coppola is a gal that I find myself giving more attention to than I might normally be inclined to at the best of times.
