A Kiss is Just a . . . .

A kiss is just a kiss!Is a kiss just a kiss or is it really more than we’d like to admit? There seem to be few things as intimate as swapping spit with someone. I apologize for the way I’ve referred to it, but in reality that’s exactly what you’re doing. For some, a kiss is too intimate to share with just anyone. Others will make-out at the drop of a hat. Who’s right? Should it be something you share with only a handful of people in your life or should it be something that you try and experience as much of before you die?

I struggled through these questions this weekend as I was out on the town. Friday night I was in a local college pub, singing away at the top of my lungs as the piano man tickled out tunes such as “Sweet Caroline” and “Brown Eyed Girl,”
watching guys and girls in drunken lip-locks trying to cap off their evenings in style. From what I saw, everyone seemed to be having a good time with their new friends, although it should be noted that I was about six pints of Strongbow past a clear head. Although I’m a hedonist at heart, I think relationships between people require restraint – it’s part of the trade-off. You get to spend your life with this person with the understanding that you give up making-out with strangers. It sounds like a good deal. It IS a good deal. Yet there I was, surrounded by people for whom “good” meant sticking their tongues down a stranger’s throat. If these people identify a good time with that, what will it take for them to break the cycle and only kiss one person for the rest of their lives? In this day and age, I’m thinking that it will take more than what any one person can manage to offer.

It's hard to deny the excitement of a passionate kiss with a stranger, but I'd agree with you that drunken necking isn't exactly the most romantic way to spend an evening. On the other hand, someone once said that you may have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your prince, so I guess it could be considered a necessary evil!
