My uncle has been living alone since his first wife died in an accident in the late 80s. My early memories of him was of a grumpy man, who didn't really want to talk to anyone and spent most of his time sketching. I admit I was a little scared of him as a child and I'd rather do my chores than keep him company on weekends.

It was the summer of '97 when I noticed a change in my uncle's disposition. He was smiling more often. Not the smiles I usually see in his face with just the corners of his mouth turned up, but a genuine smile with sparkles in his eyes. It was a familiar kind of smile that I've seen in the mirror hundreds of times and read about in a romance novel or two. My uncle was in love!

Things happened so fast after that. One moment he's telling me he found a pretty Asian angel and the next thing I know they're getting married. Of course this didn't sit well with some members of the family especially the more conservative ones. They weren't really opposed to my uncle marrying again, but a mail order bride is just too fast and too unconventional. Uncle Andrew managed to convince them after giving a speech about how great it is to find marriage-minded women, who value commitment more than anything else. That's what he found in this beautiful Asian girl, who is also looking for someone to share a long term relationship with.

Today, they're still going strong and have already started a family with a cute daughter and another baby on the way. I can't help but think about their love life and wish all relationships end up well like theirs did in a romance novel, happy-ending kind of way.
