All Kinds of People
If you’re going to be dating online, you’d better be prepared to meet all kinds of people. It’s a social activity, after all, and getting out and connecting with people you wouldn’t normally meet is how it’s done. I went out on a date about a month ago with a girl I met at a speed dating event. She is awesome: bright, charming and attractive – a perfect 10 in most books. The strange thing for me was that she was an active Christian who was dating on Christian Café and helping run speed dating events.
I was brought up Roman Catholic but I have long since turned from religion. My friends aren’t spiritual either – at least not open about it -- so it’s strange for me to be around people who are. If something is a large part of your life you should enjoy talking about it. But what happens when a believer brings God into a conversation, with full conviction that it exists, with someone who doesn’t? I struggled over this. Believers must think non-believers nuts and I don’t blame them. Spirituality is personal. Still, my friend and I got along really well and although we aren’t a perfect match, I think we’ll remain as friends. As a side note, she finally joined a couple of non-religious dating sites and is having a blast meeting all kinds of new people. Sometimes all you need is an open mind to go along with an open heart. Mine’s open! C’mon in!
