Beautiful Italian Dates And Beautiful Traditions
Traditions are important. It might not always be in the forefront of your mind, but it's hard to understand yourself without knowing where you came from. It's equally hard for other people to understand you if they don't understand your background and the traditions and values that shaped your life from the beginning. You don't, of course, want to be overly obsessed with the past, but it's natural to value the form of life you've lived and to want it to continue. What's amazing to me is how few people actually understand this desire. My Italian friends are usually the only people who understand me when I talk about these things. One of my friends in particular dreams of having a beautiful Italian wife, and he's trying to find himself the perfect match on some Italian dating sites.
It's not like if he meets his dream girl he'll pass her by because she's isn't Italian. It's just that he wants to meet someone whom he can really share his life with, and that's more likely to happen with someone from a similar background. For him, the most important thing in life is family, and family is all about tradition. It's not just about food and language; it's the about tone and style, too. That's what love and life come down to.
That probably sounds a little strange, but if you met him and his family you'd know exactly what I mean. They have a way of talking, communicating and interacting that makes you feel like you've stepped into a different world. They have a great way of life, but you can also see that it wouldn't be for everyone. If you're reserved or shy or uncomfortable around people who are extremely direct, you're not going to last long.
It reminds me of my family a bit. We're not Italian, but we've got a group dynamic that just wouldn't make sense to a lot of people. When I imagine having a home and a family of my own one day, that's what I think about. I don't care much about the house I live in or the city or whatever. What I'm after is more like a kind of energy. Maybe the best way to describe it is by the sound. You can gauge the feeling of a room, gauge whether or not you'll be at home in it before you walk in by the particular din of the conversations going on. I don't know if I'll ever find that particular tone and cadence again, but it is something I want to work on. So I understand why my friend, dreaming of family, is looking for a beautiful Italian girl so he can build the kind of life he's always wanted.
