Best Face Forward
Using a webcam for dating still seems like a bit of a bold notion to me. I remember the first time I came across one. I was heading out to work for a TV station in BC and a buddy gave me one to keep in contact. The problem was I couldn’t make it work! This was six years ago and my computer wasn’t quite adequate, I don’t think, but the idea really intrigued me.
Voice calls seems like an obvious plus over the computer – who wouldn’t want to chat and see who they’re chatting with at the same time. Yet since that time, I’ve bought new computers but have really never been interested in getting a cam to go along with it. Being the online dating guy that I am, I notice a lot of dating sites that include video. The most recent one that I reviewed was Quest Personals. The site has a ton of features for members, including audio/video messages and chat. The problem is that I just don’t know if it’s a great idea to use it on dating sites. First off, the video quality isn’t perfect. Secondly, most people look less than stunning sitting in front of the computer, illuminated by the dull glow of a computer monitor, and few know how to “perform” in front of one. I’m sure they add a new dimension to the online game, but in until a new cam lands on my lap, I think I’ll just remain happily ignorant!
