Better Come Packing
While sorting through a stack of dating news today, I came upon this little article on youngsters pretending to be people they’re not online. This struck a cord because I know this is something I would have done years ago.
I dialed up 1-976 numbers for a time (that time would have been the exact space between phone bills that, of course, my parents paid for) pretending I was different people at different ages. It was a lot of fun but the reality soon caught up with me. Online, though, you can do all that and more without the huge phone bill. Childs play rides along unnoticed on a typical Internet account and all the while little Billy is playing Troy, the 28 year-old soccer star, who is searching for “the one.” I don’t know if any of these types of fake profiles have crossed my path. I don’t think I’d fall for them because the mentality and maturity would probably shine through at some point. Then there’s the phone. Assuming people are like me, the phone is necessary prior to a first date. You should be able to tell by talking, shouldn’t you? Well, that’s the hope anyway. Mind you, by writing this, I could be sticking a target on my profile for 15-year-old girls to terrorize. I’m sure torturing poor souls looking for love would seem like fun to the young but be warned: if you come knocking at my door, you best come packing. I got game that I honed back when I was 15 and it’s nothing but A. I would be only too happy to pull it out and dust it off for the occasion! GAME ON!
