Better to Have Loved and Lost?
I have always stood firmly behind the position that it is better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all. That is, I’ve always believed that right up until the point of the breakup. When my heart it getting destroyed through the love-grinder, I tend to have a different opinion. I’ve noticed this in many areas of my life, most recently after the death of a friend.
It’s funny when you think someone is going to be around for a while or even a lifetime. Then suddenly your world turns upside down. I begin to question my perception of safety and security. How close am I to this pain on a daily basis and I don’t even know it? Is it really better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all? Right now I’ll say no. Pain outweighs the pleasure. But catch me in a little while and ask me the question again. I know things will change and love will eventually be
worth whatever grinder my heart has to go through to get it.
