Building Relationships: Finding a Good Foundation
Building relationships isn't easy. That's why it's so important to make sure that you get off to a good start. There is more to good relationships than simply a passing attraction, however intense it might be at first. Long-term compatibility is really the important factor to think about when deciding who you're going to spend your precious time with, and this is something that a good matchmaking site can help with.
Initially, a systematic selection process might seem a bit daunting. For starters, while you might be able to think of a list of qualities that attract you to a person, it might be hard to figure out which ones matter most and why. Fortunately, matching systems are designed to help you get to know yourself a little better so that you can make more informed choices about the people you choose to meet up with.
I suppose all this talk about "informed choices" and "long-term compatibility" aren't making for the most romantic-sounding reading of all time. This perhaps raises another issue about online dating where people sometimes worry that having a selection process takes the magic out of the experience of finding a special someone. However, I don't think that's a reasonable worry. When you go out to meet someone for the first time, all the excitement will still be there. The only difference will be that you can go on that date with a little more confidence that you'll be well received and that you're going to get to know someone who might stick around for the long haul.
There will still be plenty of time for grand gestures and magical romance if you hit it off with someone. It's important to remember that building good relationships has to start somewhere and, while making sure you're building on a stable footing might not sound that much fun, it'll make what you create that much more enjoyable, meaningful and fun.
