Cupids First Blog!
It was January 2002 and I had yet to discover online dating. I had been in a relationship for three years, so this should come as no surprise. But as 2002 rolled in, I was single again and figured I’d give the Internet a try. I’ve had a few great years meeting people and learning how various sites operate. I’ve met mostly wonderful individuals who, although not being a perfect match, have still helped change by life in some way. Now it’s 2005 and I sit here typing to you from a site that seeks to explore all the pros and cons of an industry that I have really come to respect and admire.
Hopefully over the next little while, this blog will begin to shape itself into more than just a collection of thoughts and words. I hope it expresses the trials and tribulations of what’s going on at CupidsReviews.com. With that in mind, I’ll enter this:
It’s Monday, May 2nd at Cupids and I’m sitting on my couch, next to my cat, attempting to scratch out my very first blog entry for the site. The site has been in development for . . . well, I’m not quite sure. I know I’ve been on the project now for about two months, but this domain was bought years ago. I’ve been excited about the concept since I heard about it and the past two months have been an enjoyable and challenging work experience.
In that time, we’ve collected a lot of data and tried to put it together in a logical manner so that it’s easy for everyone to understand and benefit from. Not all sites are created equal. They can be very different, offering a wide range of services, access levels and price points. The reviews take this into consideration. When the scheme for rankings was laid out, it was obvious that no matter how hard we tried, there was no way to give an absolute value. Let me give you an example.
I have been a member of Casual Kiss and Lava Life for a long time. I joined Casual Kiss a few months before Lava but I’ve been out with ten times as many people from LavaLife than from CK. If you read the reviews, Casual Kiss clearly brings home the best marks. It has many more features then Lava Life does and our rankings are based on that. What they can’t take into account is that different sites attract different people and you might connect with more people on one site than another. I find that Lava Life has more people who’s interests are similar to my own so I make connections easier there, despite the difference in scores between the sites.
Despite the X factor, the reviews and rankings are pretty bang-on
and that creates value. Hopefully over the next little while we can continue
to grow the site and increase the value so that many people can benefit from
the time and energy we’re putting in. As for me, my time and energy must
now flow to a different aspect of the site. I’m off to see a man about
some pictures. Hold it right there – that’s right. Everyone say
CHEESE!
