Dating and Discretion

Dating and DiscretionDo you have one of those friends that feel it’s their obligation to tell you every juicy detail of their private experiences? I do. I have a few who suffer from diarrhea of the mouth, but one guy in particular can’t figure out when he should stop. This guy has been a great friend of mine for many years. We met in high school and our friendship continues a decade later. When he was notching his post back in school, I knew about each and every one of them.

I guess it was part of “the boys club”—bragging to friends about who we were with and what they were like. Perhaps it’s a part of growing up. Still, to be doing it ten years down the line, it just strikes me as odd. It’s funny, though. I have another friend who I went to grade school with. During those formative years, it’s safe to say that I was fully enjoying puberty and breaking out of my shell. I don’t know if I could get girls off my mind. My poor friend approached it differently. He was more reserved than I was, and eventually I figured out that he wasn’t interested in hearing about my stories, so we just spoke about different things. I don’t know where this is going, but I guess it’s safe to say that although I’m not out of the woods, I have a decent hand on when people are bored of my stories. I now believe that when it comes to my personal life, discretion is essential. I just wish some others would catch on a bit quicker when it comes to their lives…

You're right in some points but if it comes to a friendship it's normal to listen your friend's stories even if they are silly sometimes.

Of course, if they are very detailed, I can get bored, but won't show it. There are some events in our life which we remember for years and wish to share with a close friend.

It's true that we should be reasonable anyway. May be it's a good idea to present a diary for such a friend so that he writes some of his events there and reads them every time he wishes to refresh his memory?)
