Dating Differences Between Rich And Poor People
I've met tons of people through various dating sites, but never do I feel so out of place as when visiting sites designed to let you meet wealthy people. Maybe it's a mix of humility and arrogance. Humility being "what's a cheap bum with a less-than-stellar credit rating doing on a site for financially successful people?" and arrogance more along the lines of "I bet I could nab a rich broad who's slumming it." Another thing that puts me in a state of unease is that there are often different mentalities between rich and poor people.
This doesn't mean I'm implying that every rich person out there is a snob like in the movies. People share similar interests, which may make you feel like an outcast if it's not something you share with them. I usually go in expecting the difference in income to be the only thing that varies between myself and my dates, but in actuality, it's more the fact that having significantly more money means they can share hobbies with each other that I can't, while it's not because I don't like them, but because I can't afford to experience them.
Rich and poor people hang out in different places most of the time. It has nothing to do with being snooty. I don't hang out in slums, simply because I can afford not to. It's the same concept. If I were a rich man, instead of living in a great bachelor pad in an amazing apartment building, I'd live in the penthouse suite of a five-star hotel. For another example, I met Allie on a wealthy dating site. She told me she had trouble getting enough cash together so that all 20 of her friends could have stage side tickets to the last Lady Gaga concert. I was at that same concert and had trouble getting enough cash together for two seats in the nosebleed section.
Our being at the same concert proves rich and poor people still share things in common. Allie loves going to Cirque Du Soleil and can never wait for tickets to go on sale and I love watching Cirque Du Soleil and can never wait for the DVD of the show to go on sale. She loves fine pizza, I love any pizza. We had two perfect dates as a result: one had us hitting up Dominos and then Cirque, the other had us visiting a wood-burning stove pizzeria followed by going to my place and watching more Cirque. My favorite was the latter, because it let us discover that we also share an appreciation of snuggling.
