We tend to think of ourselves as pretty worldly. Whether we live in cities or small towns, we're generally exposed to a lot of different people with many different backgrounds, and we tend to thing we've seen pretty much everything. Still, we tend to end up hanging out with people with whom we know we have a lot in common. It's just a matter of ease. It's worth remembering that different cultures all have different attitudes toward love, romance, sexuality and life in general and that having an exotic, beautiful encounter can really be a good way to have your eyes opened to a whole new world of possibilities. For most of us, the downside of our culture is that we suffer a lot from the drain of a relentless routine, and there aren't many things that can shake us out of that. Sure, things still move us. They can be the difference between a monotonous existence and a full life.

It's not like destiny calls every time you hook up with someone; it's just that new relationships help you keep from becoming a prisoner of your own habits.
The great thing about dating online is that it keeps you from dating your neighbor. There is nothing wrong with that, per se. Maybe your neighbor is a really cool person, and you should find the nerve to ask him/her out. All I mean is that you've got to remember that, while you shouldn't overlook what is right in front of you, it's very important to realize that there is more to life that what you're exposed to on a day-to-day basis. If you're having trouble finding people who really engage you, then you shouldn't try and be what everyone expects you to be. You should try and find someone more compatible and that usually involves looking in new places.
