Fit Girls Gone Wild

The Right Latin Dating Service! In the book Bonfire of the Vanities, Tom Wolfe identifies the creatures known in Manhattan as "the social x-rays". A social x-ray is the modern (well, at least 1980s) version of the socialite, a Fifth (or Park) Avenue woman, inevitably married, and along with the expected immaculate outfits is the fanatical obsession with exercise. These are fit girls gone wild - women that have starved themselves in addition to working themselves over in the gym and yoga class. With skin stretched across high cheek bones and a collarbone region that resembles a set of bike handles, these ridiculously fit women give the rest of the physically active world a bad name. Fitness dating sites don't typically have too many these aerobicides, but the bad apples almost always give the rest of the barrel a bad rap.

I've always wondered why women like Ally Macbeal and Courteney Cox were held as the pinnacles of female perfection. Let's face it, this level of starvation-chic isn't really healthy - I've also never understood why stick thin was considered synonymous with being healthy. Fitness is mental as well as physical, which I've whined, moaned and blogged about before. A great body is created by being realistic and tackling flaws, rather than seeing flaws everywhere and developing an ulcer stressing about body issues.

The best physical fitness that I've ever seen was displayed by a woman who demonstrated a little restraint when it came to food (it's not like she sat around eating KFC all the live-long day), but more importantly she combined great exercise and a healthy diet. If she limited herself to eating a ricecracker with peanut butter AND then did Tae Bo, she would have been hospitalized in no time. And guess what? She had one of the best successes in the dating field that I've ever seen - hot personals like hers practically sell themselves.

Fit dating is all about that combo of physical hygiene, decent eating habits, and a realistic (not necessarily critical) attitudes towards to healthy existence. Don't go nuts!
