For the Speed of Dating

Bookmark This Page

Speed DatingTonight I’m off to a speed-dating event. Actually, I’m not “dating” – just going to chat with the owner about some business. I’ve been to a number of her events here in Toronto. She puts on a good production but boy is it work!

If you’ve never been, it’s worth it for the experience even if you don’t find your perfect match. If you’re at all hesitant, you should go check one out. Find out when one is taking place – they’re usually held at bars and restaurants – and just slide on in as if you were a regular. The whole “setup” behind speeddating can be a little uncomfortable at first but that’s what you’re there for, after all. Most people tend to mingle a bit after so you might even just pick up some stragglers! Personally, online dating is much better in my books, but what it really comes down to is options. You’re bound to meet a bunch of interesting and entertaining people who you wouldn’t meet online and that, in itself, is what its all about.

I don't know how anyone can think online dating is better than meeting people in person. I find the whole idea of wirting a profile about yourself a bit like trying to sell a second hnad in the classifieds. I went speed dating and while I accept that the initail moments can be slightly awkward, it's no more awkaward than arriving anywhere social by yourself. the difference is that the host thrusts a drink into your hand and introiduces you to the other guests so the awkwardness is over in no time. THEN, you get to meet 10 women that want to meet you all in one night. What's more, the drinks are on the house. I just don't know how anyone can think that's not a great way to spend a weeknight in winter!
