Ikea for Love
Is it just me or is Ikea a huge magnet for singles? Every time I’m in there, I can’t help but notice all of the single guys and girls browsing the vignettes and show floor, looking for an accent to set their place apart from the next or a new friend they can bring home to their Sandhem (that’s Ikea’ish for gorgeous two-seat sofa). Yet if you look closer, you seem to get this SubtEXt.
That’s generally the crowd Ikea targets – the young and eligible market and new families. You can spot those kid-carrying couple a mile away. They walk differently and talk differently. They don’t use their eyes as much. This is what the people-watcher in me notices. Next time you’re in there, have a seat somewhere – there’s plenty of them! Just watch the lonely souls walk by. Watch for the glances. Look for the stares. See the subtle smiles as they spread across someone’s face when they know someone is watching them. And when you see me walking by – smile, so I get the gist. Just don’t make it too noticeable. I could be preparing to make a move on that pretty brunette walking ten paces behind me.
