Is An Interracial Ebony Fantasy Even Controversial Anymore?
I wonder, as a white man, is having an interracial ebony fantasy even controversial anymore? I know that there are quite a few websites, dating columnists and even TV shows out there that would make it seem like it is, but they're also designed to push product and nothing makes product move faster than controversy. The abundance of sites out there specifically designed for meeting interracial singles sure gives the impression that mixed-race hookups are quite the norm or could be some day soon.
This isn't the 40s where such an act could get one lynched, it's also not the 60s when some washrooms and restaurants were segregated and it isn't even the 90s when the "Jungle Fever" associated with interracial ebony and white mixing made pursuing a beautiful hottie of another race a wild adventure.
This is 2009, there's an African-American president and for a while there, the most successful rapper in the world was white. That doesn't mean that all has changed, but maybe it has changed enough to affect the dating world.
Racism clearly still exists in our society, but what's relevant here is the extent to which it still biases our culture? We must ask ourselves if the force that demonized interracial unions in the 40s and fetishized them in the 90s is still as strong. If not, then have we moved to the point where two people of different races hooking up is no more strange than, say a mature guy in his 40s or 50s hooking up with a woman in her 20s or a fat woman and skinny man getting together?
I don't pretend to be able to answer this question for everyone, but I can hazard a guess that the majority of people, at least in North America and parts of Europe, have moved on and interracial ebony and white pairings aren't as shocking or surprising as they once were. Moreover, at least they're not as shocking on a personal level or among friends. The stigma probably comes back, though, when you turn on the TV, open up the newspaper or in some cases when you start surfing the web.
