IWantU in Montreal
Last week at this time I was riding down in an elevator inside
the Sheridan in downtown Montreal. I was on my way to a great lunch atop one
of Montreal’s tallest buildings. The day was big, blue and bright and
the sight was spectacular. It was lunchtime, yet it seemed it was the first
meal of the day for most. I sat down next to a couple of guys from IWantU.com
and the gang from AdultFriendFinder.com.
I ordered a glass of white wine, a cream of spinach soup and a peppercorn steak.
For those of you taking notes, this is the proper way to start your day!
It didn’t take long for discussion to turn from early-morning hangover remedys to shop talk. My first question to the Director of Sales and Marketing for IwantU, was on the level of free access available at his site. I believe that a certain amount of free access can only be beneficial to a site. In particular, I expect any site I sign up for to allow paid members to contact me for free. IWantU doesn’t permit this. They’ve obviously been in business for a long time and have their market down. He was saying that for the clientele they’re trying to attract, they don’t need to give any more away. I read clientele as being men 18-35 with one hand on their credit cards and the other on their zippers. That’s not a bad market – not bad at all!
He went on to say that although Adult Friend Finder
was certainly the leader in the field, they weren’t necessarily looking
to take the top spot. Like any market, all you need is to grab a piece of the
pie. Well, this pie grows by the day, and hopefully everyone will be able to
have a bite!
