Love And Relationships Among The Ruins
The biggest problem for a person suffering from a communicable disease is usually not the illness itself or the medical expenses. More often than not, it's the feeling of hopelessness and sadness that weighs them down realizing that their condition is a hindrance to having meaningful love and relationships with other people, let alone find acceptance. For people with an STD, dating can be very frustrating and it's very fortunate that there are places online, where they can connect with each other and start something new.
I once had a colleague who got infected after having a blood transfusion, which is probably the worst way of contracting an STD. Surprisingly, it didn't take long for him to come to terms with his situation and bounce right back with positive outlook on life. With advances in the field of medicine, he said it's not a death sentence anymore and he can still go on living life to the fullest. His only concern is with his new status, finding love and relationships could be a challenge especially when it comes to the point of physical intimacy.
I suggested for him to go online and check out some dating sites catering to STD positive individuals who, like him, are having a hard time looking for love and relationships in the conventional way. It didn't take long before he found a beautiful Italian girl, who shares his interests. From the bounce in his step and the tone of his voice whenever he talks about her, it was quite obvious he was quite smitten with his new found flame.
Their online romance continued for several months before he decided to move down to sunny California to start a new life with his girlfriend. The last time I heard from him, they just got back from their honeymoon, which he jokingly described as some sort of vacation time with Angelina and Brad.
There are times when I get to thinking that life can be unfair when everything falls apart with just one wrong move. It's heartening to know that there are people who, instead of giving up, pick up the pieces and start fresh with a whole new perspective.
