Mama Said To Marry A Nice, Thin Jewish Girl
Something that caught me by total surprise a few years back was that my mother suddenly insisted I settle down with a thin Jewish girl. I was taken aback for two reasons. One: I was only 21, so I felt much too young to be married. Two: While I know many atheists tend to crumble in front of their Jewish mommies, my Ma was Catholic, so why did she want me joining a Jewish dating site?
The answers may surprise you, or at least amuse and offend you a little bit. One reason was because of the very prejudiced stereotype that every sweet Jewish girl out there has a rich lawyer, doctor or movie producer for a father, so if I married into the family, I'd be set for life. I believe my mother's exact words were "Say goodbye to worrying about bills and hello to latke snacks and a rich daddy-in-law!"
Isn't that terrible? Nevertheless, she did get me thinking. By this point in my life I had dated women of all sorts of ages and ethnic backgrounds, as well as various religions. However, I had never been on a hot Jewish date before. What's it like? Often one's beliefs affect their outlook on life, so I was intrigued.
So intrigued that I joined a dating site where I met a very thin Jewish babe. We're talking skin on bones, so I'm ashamed to admit I broke it off after just a few dates because I wasn't remotely physically attracted to her. Give me a break! I was a 21-year-old male! I was too busy thinking with my dreidel to realize how amazing certain women were.
Luckily for me, the next Jewish chick I dated was smoking hot. She was right up my alley for back then, looking to anger her parents by making out with someone uncircumcised who had no intention of converting. This screamed "wild thing" to me, so I fell head over heels in crush with her.
Naturally it didn't last too long, so I thought I'd tell my mom the next time I visited her in the hospital. Did I mention earlier that she was recovering from major surgery? If not, then you may have just figured out where this is heading. When I told her I wouldn't be marrying a thin Jewish girl like she wanted, she was totally clueless as to what I was talking about.
The nurse later explained to me that she had been on copious amounts of morphine. Apparently, she even tried to set the nurse up on a date with the wall clock (she insisted the clock was very punctual). Well, color me embarrassed. But at least I had fun on this rollercoaster dating ride that ended with me finally having an excuse to talk with a hot nurse.

Your blog is hilarious! This story is especially funny. My Catholic grandmother would NEVER tell me to settle down with a nice Jewish boy. Anyway... I was unable to find your contact information on your page. So I had to comment on here.
