My Beautiful Military Girl
When I was in high school I seriously thought about joining the army like my older brother. I thought about being a modern day hero who fights the bad guys, making the world a safer place for everyone with time to spare for some hot military dating with a beautiful military girl. I guess that's what happens when you grow up watching G.I. Joe. I'm beginning to think that cartoon show was clever propaganda to encourage young boys to enlist in the army when they grow up. I'd like to say I didn't join the military because I chose to help my country in other ways. The truth is I chickened out. The images on the television is far from the colorful animations on G.I. Joe.
Thinking about an old girlfriend, the closest thing I have to a military career is a beautiful military girl named Karla. She's a pretty girl who's on her last year in the military academy when we were introduced by my brother. Before that I used to think that women in the military look like tomboys but Karla looks just like the typical girl-next-door. We went out on a date and pretty much enjoyed each other's company. After dating for a couple of months we decided we like each other a lot, so we went steady.
It took quite a bit of adjustment on my part because she seems to be guarded at times. I'd like to see this beautiful military girl let go and hang loose because those are the most memorable times I've had with her. I guess that comes with the territory of military love and dating a girl in the army.
Like any relationship we've had our share of problems, but all in all, I can say that everything was fine between the two of us. That is until she graduated and from the academy and was immediately assigned overseas. I didn't want her to go, but I understand that her duties and responsibilities as a soldier take presiden. We decided not to stress ourselves by having a long-distance relationship and just part ways as friends. We've only been together for several months, but I'll always remember the good times we've had.
I have a great admiration for soldiers. Not because I grew up watching G.I. Joe or have a brother and an ex-girlfriend in the army. It's because these are the brave men and women who chose to be apart from their families and friends, so we can be together safely with our loved ones.
