My Lake House
Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock starred in The Lake House, which seems to be a mirror of my life. I think most single people can identify with the characters: two mid-life professionals who just haven’t found that connection – the one that lasts a lifetime. Welcome to my world…
I live in the lake house. It’s quiet and familiar. I’m surrounded by fixtures that I have placed, things that remind me that I am at the place I call home. Still, it’s cold here. It lacks the warmth that a relationship brings. Sure, people come and go, but they never stay long. They need to get back to their homes, some of which are chilly, lonesome lake houses like mine, while others are warmer, filled with love, laughter and companionship.
I’m happy in my lake house. As a matter of fact, I’ve never been happier. I have everything under control. My life is moving forward. I just keep wondering where that one person is that I’m missing. Are we separated by time? Distance? Circumstance? I’m both a dreamer and a realist at heart. I don’t expect to get any ghostly love letters in my mailbox any time soon, but that doesn’t stop me from wishing for one each time I open the door…
