My Wife In Bed
I had a dream last night that was so vivid, I woke and reached over to turn on the light. I half expected my wife to be lying there beside me. She wasn’t, of course, seeing as I’m single and have never been married. Still, the dream itself was so real. I had to get out of bed to get a hold of my mind and the many thoughts that were racing through it. I could have sworn I was just in bed with the love of my life—and she was more wonderful than my heart could handle.
I had met her on one of the many online
dating sites, but which one it was I couldn’t be sure. It was as if
we had skipped over our first date, the time we spent getting to know each other
and exploring each others lives. We moved past the trips and get-togethers with
friends. Our wedding wasn’t covered at all, either. All I knew was there
I was, lying in bed next to the woman I’ve searched a lifetime for. It
was early morning. The television was on. The cat was at my head and the dog
resting by my side. My wife lay beside me, her back against a pillow and a newspaper
unfolded in front of her. The television was on and the morning news streamed
into our bedroom but I didn’t hear or see anything except for the person
next to me. The wonder of it became too much. That’s what woke me up.
I know that this woman waits for me in my future. Every day I get closer to
her. Maybe tomorrow will be the day we meet. In the meantime, I’m here,
waiting for the next sunrise.
