No Interest Here

No Interest HereThis past weekend was Pride here in Toronto. Needless to say, it was off the hook! The streets were packed yesterday and, as can happen, you start bumping into people you know. I was on the dance floor at this bar, hanging with some friends and dancing up a storm when I suddenly turned into the face of someone who I knew.

I smiled and turned away, trying to figure out where I knew them from. Then in dawned on me: she had sent me a sign of interest a few weeks back on one of the many romantic matchmaking sites that I belong to. Although nice, she certainly wasn’t quite what I was looking for. I’m not sure if she knew it was me or not but there was still an awkward moment. I hate those! I guess the polite thing to do is write and ask if it was her. At the very least, it gives her the chance to reply with some nasty remark about not getting back to her, and those are always fun letters to read!

Sometimes it happens that you wish to pretend not to know a person. I ususally feel guilty and uneasy.

But there are ways to avoid such feelings:
- be yourself and say hello
- make another person understand that there's nothing to discuss.
- say "Was nice to meet you" and walk away.

That really works!
