Nothing Like The Picture
I was sitting on a dating site recently when a woman hit me up to chat. I normally don’t like to spend time having crazy conversations with strangers unless there’s a distinct possibility that more can come from it. However, I was killing time and figured why not. She had apparently just been on a date where the guy who turned up looked nothing like his picture. I’ve been there before, myself.
I’ve had two dates where all wasn’t as it had originally appeared. One girl had a really old picture of herself and passed it off as new. The other had edited her picture to perfection, taking out some obvious details in her appearance. Apparently this was what had just happened to this girl I was talking to. She seemed a little down on dating and reluctant to try again. As any good online dating guru would do, I explained that this was a learning experience. The vast majority of people are straight shooters who portray themselves as they are. It doesn’t matter if you find someone on a site or in a bar, there’s the same chance that what they’re telling you isn’t true. Mind you, in a bar it’s hard to dodge the question of appearance. But online, you get to examine what people say without the face-to-face pain that often comes with dealing with drunks and people who just can’t take no for an answer. If you find yourself in a similar situation, just smile. It’s a sign of experience and you’ll certainly learn from it. You won’t find your love any easier drying your tears back at the ranch. Get back in the saddle and ride on!
