Online Dating in Canada
I’m from Canada and began online dating here in about five years ago. I was at a friends place with some buddies. I was recently single and they were talking about this site called CasualKiss that had a lot of people from the area on it. I was curious. They’d actually been on some dates and had good experiences. That was my first taste of online dating in Canada and it wouldn’t end there.
The first few weeks online were a bit odd, I was still shy about being online and was getting used to the site – which is fun, but a little clunky. Eventually I began to take notice of other dating sites. One that had a lot of marketing this side of the 49th was Lavalife. I joined it after a few months. Although you have to pay to contact people on Lavalife, I found a lot more success.. The people were young, urban professionals – much like myself. It felt more like home than the other site, although I staid on both. Yahoo Personals also had a strong marketing campaign and it was free, so that’s what I tried next, but with little success. There just wasn’t that strong of a draw here in Canada at the time. After Yahoo, I found LemonTonic. It was a new service that had partnerships with Microsoft. They paid big bucks to licence technology and put together a slick site. Eventually, though, it went pay and didn’t have the staying power to keep it afloat. It’s still a round, but certainly has never cracked the market like Lavalife. That’s when I stumbled on Plenty of Fish. This ugly little site was huge here in Canada as well as the US. To top it off, it’s free. The last dating site I joined was Match.com. It has a much bigger presence in the US, but I figured it was worth a few months to see how good it really was. So far, it hasn’t been bad, but again, it certainly doesn’t have the Canadian presence that Lavalife and PlentyofFish.com has.
I think we’ve got it pretty good here in Canada. We live in a connected society and have major urban centers where online dating can flourish. It’s almost too bad that there are a number of dating sites here in Canada to choose from. You will never find the exact same people on one site that you do another, although there is always some crossover. It would be great if singles just had a one-stop-shop. Maybe down the line a site will emerge to claim this title. For now, I’ll just have to manage with my multiple matchmaking sites.

It's always good when we can gather all the users at a territory or country at one place to avoid doubling.
On the other hand there are many dating sites in Canada and they are all different- some of them are devoted to hobbies and other things.
For example http://www.alovelinksplus.com/area/canadian.htm (it's not an ad just a research) had reviewed on the sites on a Canadian areas: they are 10 provinces and 3 territories and all have dating services that have substantial memberships.
At that review they mention the most popular Canadian Dating Sites. You can see them to be sure that we cannot concentrate on one site only. We sgould experimant all the time to find the true love.
