Price of Love
The other day I got yet another smile from a girl on one of the dating sites I belong to. I guess you can say that I’m a “member” if that includes the fact that I own credits there, tokens which I can use to contact someone I’m interested in. I also log in just about every day – and some days I log in many times.
I have exactly the right amount to contact one more person before I have to buy more, but I have had that same amount for about six months now. I’m sitting on them. I’m keeping my last few tokens safe and warm for a time when I am ready to date and I find someone who really interests me. Of course, logging in every day means that my profile keeps coming up in the queue and people send me “smiles.” After my first month of dating in a token-based system, I made up my mind that I would only pay to contact people that I sent smiles to first. If I send a smile and hey smile back, I pay and we can converse endlessly on my dime. But if a girl smiles at me, I don’t care how pretty she is, how well educated or how great she sounds, I’m not forking over a dime. So, as I was saying, the other day I received a smile from this girl. She’s very beautiful, speaks French, is university educated and says she has a great job and wonderful life. She sounds perfect for me! The only problem is that since I sent her a smile back, I haven’t heard a peep. It’s too bad, really. She is probably worth the $2 it takes to send an email, but until she plunks the credit card down, there’s no way she’s getting a piece of me! $2 is the price of love, and I know damn well I'm worth it!
