Rodriguez And McGowan An Item

Rodriguez And McGowan! After much speculation while they were working together and after an appearance at the Cannes film festival, the word on the web today is that Rose McGowan and Robert Rodriguez have admitted they're dating. So those poor folks that were sure they were destined to hook up with either (or both) the notable witch or the director of the classic El Mariachi are at least temporarily thwarted by the whims of fate and will be back to combing the dating personals for signs from the dating gods.

McGowan is probably most noted from her role on Charmed.... that is until she starred in both the films Planet Terror and Death Proof double-billed as Grindhouse, a project that was put together by Rodriquez and the famous Quentin Tarantino. In Tarantino's gear-head flic, McGowan plays the first hapless victim of Stuntman Mike, the serial killer played by Kurt Russell. In Rodriquez's horror film, however, she really steals the show.

I'd be lying if I said I was a huge fan of McGowan, but she had real style in Planet Terror. The movie is one of the strangest and the funniest things I've ever seen. If you're into this kind of movie, it really has everything: tongue-in-cheek writing, lots of explosions, mutant viruses, a hero on a pocket-bike, zombies, a great cast and the most absurd concepts you're likely to come across. What more could you ask for? Really? McGowan's character has one of her legs severed fairly early on in the film and her new disability is heavily mocked. Tarantino, in a cameo role, forces her to dance. The character has her revenge, however, as she spends most of the film using an assault rife as a prosthetic leg, making her a butt-kicking killing machine that saves the day and leads the rejoicing peasants to safety.

As you might have guessed, the movie is a bit over the top. It's not exactly going to get added to anyone's top-ten list of romance movies anytime soon. But, in my opinion, it was awesome. I hope that new relationship undertaken by the latest of celebrity couples will keep them producing more great films together.
