Searching for Military Singles
The "Dear John" letter used to be the staple (if not the stereotype) of military life. For those of you who were not raised on MASH re-runs, a "Dear John" letter consists of a wife writing a passive-aggressive letter to her indisposed husband that the marriage is over (this announcement was sometimes coupled with a surprise like the wife saying that she had fallen in love with the milkman/pizza delivery guy/shoe salesman etc). Times have changed and the world has shrunk since those days - it's easier than ever for those in the armed forces to date, and military singles aren't limited to waiting for snail mail to bring them word of their romantic lives. There are plenty of military dating sites out there, but let the buyer beware - some of 'em ain't as hot as they seem.
The big plus about these dating sites is that they can be accessed anywhere, so as long as you've got any kind of Internet connection it won't matter if you're in Bayonne New Jersey or somewhere off the coast of Greenland. Of course, actually meeting the object of your affection is a different story if you're presently stationed in Afghanistan, but if nothing else people can still make that remote connection in real time. Military singles no longer have to search locally for love when they've been shipped overseas - just a couple of mouse clicks and whammo! You're back home. The great advantage about real time chat features is that it is instantaneous - you don't have to wait for weeks between letters and wonder if the other person is missing you.
The real problem with some of these dating sites is quality. Military dating sites (more than other niches for some reason) can be a mixed bag, but the major features which you should always expect to find are chat options, detailed profile details, selection (probably too obvious to mention but I'm doing it anyway) and search features to help you narrow down the possibilities.
The best ones will present you with opportunities no matter where you are, at least as far as communication between singles goes. They'll definitely provide plenty of things to look forward to whether you're at home or abroad. With this increasingly small world, there is more dating potential than ever before for those in the armed services and the glory that is high speed Internet connections.
