Searching Sexy Personals

Searching Sexy PersonalsIf you're anything like me, you too also enjoy surfing around on dating sites that are geared primarily towards sex (or you're still cruising around the singles ads in the back of newspapers). Even if you're not actively looking for any action, it's always fun to see how the singles scene is doing, what's trendy in dating etc. It's kind of like people-watching at bars or parks, except you've got the safety of anonymous web searches to keep the real lunatics at a fair distance - drunk idiots aren't quite so abrasive when they're miles away. Sex dating sites are offering some stiff competition against the bar scene, but it's always interesting to see if people are actually taking advantage of the medium and coming up with interesting sexy personals. Heck, even the badly written ones are entertaining in their own way.

The best sex ads are funny, interesting, to the point and appear to be written by the kind of people you wouldn't mind sharing a drink with. The great advantage that these ads have over the pick-up bar (other than the lack of line-ups for the restroom) is that people actually have a bit of time to think of something original to say. That's not to say that people are writing autobiographies, but a personal ad that's got a few phrases that you haven't heard a million times before is a big plus. They say that the brain is largest sexual organ in the human body, and this is great opportunity to show people what you've got besides drop-dead good looks.

The worst ones are also pretty entertaining to read, even if you never want to encounter these people in a million years. USING ALL CAPS IS AN ALL TIME FAVORITE. There's nothing like the written equivalent of shouting to reel people in. Insanely picky ads are funny, especially when they're worded like a job application ("Failure to include a list of dental hygiene habits will result in no replies"). Awesomely bad ones combine both of those mistakes, and then up the ante with bad spelling and veiled insults (i.e. "SWM LOKING 4 HOT CHIX NO FATTIES OR ELSE!). There are entire articles written about creating only positive profiles - it would be great if more people followed these rules, but in the meantime the rest of us can get some enjoyment out of the really offensive ads.

People-watching has gotten a whole lot safer with the advent of e-dating/singles sites. Take a glance at a few ads, and see what kind of fun is going on outside of the singles meat market bars!
