Single Parent Shuffle

Single Parent ShuffleI might just be out of touch with the reality of our times but there certainly seems to be a lot of single mothers on dating sites. I’d say at least half of the women that have contacted me have dependents and I’m sure women must face the same thing, although probably to a slightly lesser extent. But man or women, they are all in the midst of the single parent shuffle.

The shuffle is that dance that all online singles seem to be doing. We log on, look around, write a few emails and call it a day. Yet there seems to be something a little more poignant when it comes to single parents. It isn’t something that manifests itself in physical or mental form. It doesn’t ooze out of their pours or appear in their spirit. What it is to my eyes is the grim reality of relationships of our time: there are too many people raising children by themselves.

It’s not that I think that a single parent can’t give a child all that they need to grow up both happy and healthy. It’s just a matter of simple math. Two parents can give a child twice as much! I wonder if we put age restrictions on childbirth if the number of single parents doing the shuffle would decrease. Of course it’s a barbaric thought – but a thought nonetheless. Still, my hat is off to those single parents who are dating online. There’s a lot to be said about putting the effort in and those parents that are doing so for love are hopefully shuffling in the right direction.
