Spinning!
I met a girl on Lavalife the other night. She works for a gym and teaches spinning. I’ve seen the classes – or rather heard them before I saw them – and they always looked interesting. I’ve been going to the gym for about three years now but I’ve never done anything else besides lift weights. Yet out of all the classes that they offer, spinning seemed the most interesting.
Anyway, this girl really got me excited about the idea of doing a class. Well, last night a buddy and I were getting ready to start our workout and I picked up a copy of the class schedule. It turns out that the intermediate class (they offer no beginner, much to my dismay) was being held in an hour. Somehow we decided that we could squeeze in a back workout and then hit the class. Wow! What a grueling 45 minutes! I work out at Premiere Fitness on Islington in Etobicoke and I have to say, the club looks nice – but the management is letting it fall apart. You can just tell they don’t care for the job they’re doing. Equipment stays broken for months on end, there’s no collars for weights, holes in walls take forever to repair and there was a sink in the men’s room that was broken for about six months. Another fine example was the spinning class last night. There were only nine bikes. Half of them were in disrepair – making loud noises, not functioning properly . . . and the poor instructor had to use one with no padding on her break. It was sad! Despite it all, my bike was decent (although thoroughly rusted from years of sweat) and I got a good workout. Plus, there were a number of interesting new connections that I met while there. All things said, I may even try it again next week. My thanks to Lavalife girl for turning me on to more than just weights!
