I think the thing I find most attractive about Italians is that they communicate so vibrantly. Maybe this will sound strange, but I really enjoy hand gestures. What I mean is that I enjoy it when people use their hands a lot when they talk. I enjoy it especially when conversations get a little more passionate and people are thinking faster than they can speak. You get a sense of being able to see their thoughts forming by the way their hands move and you always have a really clear sense of their emotions.

Maybe this is also a strange thing to associate with Italians. I know plenty of other people that are very emotive when they talk, but I dated a beautiful Italian girl once and the propensity for dramatic hand gestures was what always struck me when we would go to dinner with her family. It seems to me like while the rest of us have to spend all kinds of time and energy perfecting body language, Italians have a natural capacity for being emotive.

It's something I wish I had more of a talent for, but it seems to be something that's hard to learn. I get to work as a writer and I'm good with words, but it often happens that words don't necessarily communicate all that you would like. I thing that the beautiful Italian girl I used to date really had a hard time reading me and it was one of the reasons we didn't last. Communication problems in relationships are always hard to get over, but it's unfortunate that this one was caused by a capacity I very much aspired toward.
