The Price of a Perfect Match
I was going through sites we reviewed on the weekend, looking to see what changes have been made to them since they were originally reviewed. One that I came across that really struck me was Perfect Match. In particular, it was the pricing that got me wondering.
Perfect Match was the site featured in Must Love Dogs. It’s set up similar to eHarmony, with a test designed to hook you up with likeminded people. It’s nowhere near as detailed as the eHarmony Q & A session, but it is work. Like most sites, if you buy a membership in bulk, you can get a discount. However, to keep things fair, we look at the cost of a one month membership. Most sites come in around $20 to $25 mark. Match, which is one of the most popular dating sites right now, costs $30 for a month. True.com, which claims to do background checks on members for safety, costs $50. Then we have eHarmony and Perfect Match sliding in at an remarkable $60.
Perfect Match is certainly a nice site, but I just can’t see paying three times as much because it has a little quiz. Love is a heck of a lot more complicated than that. Anyway, if anyone has paid the price for the site, I’d be interested in knowing how you found it…

The thing that bugs me the most about signing up for dating sites it the annoying practice of all of them for revolving monthly charges. Typically before the first month is out, I am ready to cancel because all the sites prospects have dried up or your down to the same faces that you see on every other site. Some show up 4 or 5 times!!
It's also a pain not to be able to do a site search without signing up and creating a profile. Unfortunately, since so many sites use the same database for members, I've signed/created/posted/searched/cancelled in the same day. I've run out of sites to try. Well except for the "alternate" sites.
So here I am a year and a half later of trying edate sites, still single, but nowhere left to look... maybe it's just this area or my age range. It is a bit discouraging.

Wow. That would such to run out of candidates to date on these dating sites. I'm just dipping my toe into this for the first time and it seems like some sites are really just scams. I didn't realize that some sites share databases. I thought all the sites were unique. Do all sites share data or is it only some sites?

If you stick to the larger sites you should be fine for candidates. Use our popularity score to figure out the big ones and pick a site you've heard of before.
As for shared databases, no, not every site is unique. I wouldn't worry too much about that. A shared database means more possible contacts, after all. ;)

My experience has been that Perfect Match is pretty good compared to others, but the price is insane now. I'm not sure what caused the price hike. Maybe they're trying to keep out the meat hunters.
I've had luck meeting people, but I've also had terrible luck at meeting good people. A lot of women and men get on these sites looking for the wrong things. Women are a bit more subtle about it, but it's the same dramatic, selfish crap.
Online dating is a hit and miss game, where you might never find what you're looking for and lose $300.00 every year. But at least it's something. Dating these days is very, very hard.

I know exactly what you mean, cedar. It's hard for all of us to meet someone that we can make a real connection with. It's true that dating is very hard. I've had the same experience, but I keep with it and still believe that eventually I'll find that person that I've been looking for. It's hard to keep a positive attitude about it sometimes, but I sincerely hope that you stick with it and that it works out for you.
