This Beautiful Woman Is Also A Geek
So the other day, I tried my luck on a new dating personals site. It was geared towards geeks like I am. And no, that's not a typo for "Greek." I'm referring to full-on nerds spelled with a capital "dork." Yet despite this, I managed to secure a date with a really beautiful woman.
Normally I'm all set whenever it comes to a first date, but it turns out this beautiful woman is an event planner for a TV station. That means the tried and true "dinner and a movie" won't work on her, because she helps organize pretty much every local movie premier. That means she's seen the movie long before I managed to buy us tickets.
I know what you're thinking. I should just do something that geeks like to do! Well here's the thing: geeks are often very indoors-y, as in, we stay inside at home. What are we doing? We watch movies and cartoons, play video games or Dungeons and Dragons (why do my paladins keep dying?), as well as read comics. Some are into gadgets and others into things like crocheting, but half the time they do that at home, too.
The result is that you can't really do geeky stuff on a first date, because it's too soon to invite them over to your place. I mean, how creepy would it be if a guy walked up to a beautiful woman and said "Hey, want to go back to my room and play with my toys?" It wouldn't even matter if I had an original Star Wars Boba Fett action figure! Not that I'd ever let anyone play with an original Boba Fett figure, but you see where this geek is going.
So yeah, I definitely need some romance ideas. I'm thinking a restaurant that's a little bit nicer than the kinds of places I normally go to, followed up by hanging out at a book store (preferably one with both a crafts and graphic novel section).
I'm actually really nervous about this first date. Is it considered lame to go window shopping as a date? Maybe she'd like to take a stroll through the local mall. It not only has a Future Shop in it for gadgets and DVDs, but also both a comic shop and hobby store. I just hope this hot sexy woman doesn't think I'm a cheapskate!
You know what? I'm probably over thinking this. If she's anywhere near as geeky as I am, then all of those ideas should be fine. If not, then we're different kinds of nerds and shouldn't be going out in the first place. But between you and me, I really, really hope she's as geeky as I am.
