Toronto to Montreal: Dating Abroad?

Bookmark This Page

It’s twenty minutes into my train ride from Toronto to Montreal for a business conference and a short Indian man with hunched shoulders and thick-rimmed glasses is pushing a cart of snacks up the isle. I’m chatting with the girl sitting next to me who’s from Melbourne, Australia. She was working in Whistler, British Columbia and is on her way through to New York. Next to her sits her boyfriend who she picked up in while working out west. Travel can be fun. It can be an adventure. And sometimes, without really knowing it, it can lead to wild romance!

If you’ve ever fallen in love while traveling, you know that it can be really easy to get swept up in the moment. You’re in a foreign environment and your senses are fully alert to the new world around them. Everything becomes more acute as if you’re just seeing or tasting for the first time. It’s this onslaught of feeling and emotion that can easily make you think that the grass is greener, the water more thirst quenching and love more deep on the other side. In reality, I don’t think this is true. It’s just a symptom of your situation.

The train bumbles on down the tracks. Tales of beautiful French women and an exceptional cultural experience are only hours away. I put on my earphones and turn on my MP3. As I begin to relax, thoughts of adventure in Montreal fill my mind. Don’t worry, I’ve come prepared and I’ll do my best to fight the feeling of falling in love!
