True Love at Dragonfly?
This past Friday, I hit the town in Niagara Falls to celebrate the birthday of a friend. You never know what to expect when heading out on a road trip. However, it’s safe to say that expectations of fun and adventure were high. We were happy to find that these expectations were definitely exceeded!
It started off with a drive down to our hotel room. It was an hour-and-a-half drive and we started out watching some videos from a seminar about how to attract women put on my David DeAngelo. I’d never seen his act before, but by 20 minutes into it, we had to turn it off. I just don’t know how guys can benefit from what he’s trying to teach. I just shake my head at anyone who takes the approach that women choose men based on primal urges driven by the desire to make beautiful babies. But hey, I’m only an expert on dating sites, so what do I know. Anyway, I digress!
We made it to our room overlooking the Falls, drop our gear off and headed for dinner on the strip, which turned out to be at the Rainforest Café. Shortly after our main course arrived, I began to wonder why nobody had mentioned to me that the food there was crap. Anyway, if you ever happen to stumble on one, it’s probably not worth the grotesque prices – unless you’re strictly there to entertain your four-year-old with animatronics gorillas and loads of fake foliage. A friend arrived in town who was joining us and that left us chugging what was left of our bottle of wine. Little did we know, the drink would play such an interesting role in our evening.
Back up in our room, we busied ourselves with getting all suited up and we sipped on champagne while eating chocolate covered strawberries. This may seem like an odd thing for a couple of straight guys to be doing on a weekend away, but lets not read too much into it, okay?
We finished dressing and hooked up with our other buddy for a Manhattan before heading to the casino. The birthday boy loves blackjack and we needed to get him some table time before the evening began. We each had another drink at the casino and I was hit on by a very young-looking 80 old-woman. I stopped short of getting her number, but it was certainly a highlight of my night.
Finally, after about 45 minutes, my friend had made $200 on the table and we were anxious to get moving so we dragged him off to the casino club, Dragonfly. Once inside, we ordered a couple of bottles of champagne and the night began. I almost ended up getting into a fight but my friend met this great girl on the dance floor. They are both tall and dark. He’s in lawyer school and she’s in doctor school, albeit in Ireland. It wasn’t long before they were making out on the dance floor while I did turns around the room, meeting tons of new and wonderful people. Near the close of the evening, my friend became convinced that he needed to leave before he fell down, so we took off. However, not before he was able to slip his email to the girl. It’s been a long while since I’ve seen two people make such a quick connection, but I think that’s how all true love should start. Yep, I’m a dreamer – and damn proud!
We tried to get a meal at two diners but my friend was too intoxicated to keep it together. He ended up accidentally stealing a spoon and would have secured a huge concrete ash tray, had it not been so huge and concrete. The next day was really, really rough for him, and it took me a full day to recover, too. So what was the best part of the weekend? The tall, dark doctor babe emailed my buddy yesterday. I don’t know how viable a relationship is between two people separated by an ocean and tons of intense schooling, but I’d like to think everything is possible. If so, I saw magic this weekend at Dragonfly in Niagara Falls – the kind of magic that makes me think we should do it all again this coming weekend…
