Trying To Keep Up With My Fit Girlfriend
It's about that time of year again when there's a chill in the air and getting outside for a run is that much more unappealing. When I first met her on a local dating site, we were both looking good, but recently I've been slipping a bit. I'm not bad in terms of taking care of myself and staying in shape, but my fit girlfriend just recently joined a gym and between my two jobs, I simply don't have the time to hit the weight room or the treadmill. Well, that's not entirely true. The few free moments I have are spent reading or watching TV. With the hockey season approaching, I highly doubt I'll be spending my free time maintaining or improving my physique.
On top of it all, I'm a smoker as well - now up to almost a pack a day! That certainly doesn't help my case and I've tried quitting numerous times, but just can't seem to kick the habit. She's only a light smoker, which is probably why her daily jogs aren't such a pain for her. Now that we're living together, it's a lot easier to compare myself to her and find my faults. Moving in with the girlfriend is always full of surprises, but I never figured feeling really physically inferior to my fit girlfriend would be one of them.
With a packed daily routine, I really don't know what to do. I could run to work with my suit on, but I imagine my co-workers wouldn't appreciate working alongside a sweaty and potentially smelly guy all day long. It seems my only hope of getting in shape is to either cut back on work (though that's pretty much out of the question at the moment) or replacing my rest and relaxation time in front of the television with workout sessions (not an appealing thought). However, that seems like the only way I'm going to keep up with my partner!
A friend of mine recently made a suggestion and it might just be the only way to keep up with her. If we both join the same gym and make a point of going together at the same time, not only will I be able to get back in shape and not be one of those guys on the Montreal dating scene who everyone secretly thinks doesn't deserve the fit girlfriend he's partnered up with, but it will also help to ensure we never miss a gym date. So much for my hockey games!
