Watching My Words
Have you ever written something insignificant to someone over email or instant messaging and then WHAMO! they write something back tearing you a new hole where none belongs? I had that happen to me today. Mind you, I called her something that she felt offensive, but to me, it wasn’t offensive at all. The written word used to be something that I used to put on a pedestal.
If I really wanted to communicate with someone, I would write. There never seemed to be this problem before the dawn of digital, although I’m sure it must have existed. I know I used sarcasm in my snail-mail letters. Now I have to think twice before I say anything but exactly what I mean. If I falter, I get blasted like I did today, and all I did was refer to a company that she worked at as spammers. I even have the email to prove it.
