Afro Introductions seems to be aimed towards bringing Black people from around the globe together. Although, the name may invoke the term African American to some, the scope of membership is hardly so limited, it would appear. Although hardly a quantified observation, a quick look through some of the profile results makes it clear that there are many members looking for interracial dating experiences, as well. The international nature of the site is clear, too, as it does provide translation services for top-level subscribers.

It is free to join AfroIntroductions, but that doesn't mean that they don't make some effort to maintain at least a modicum of quality in their profiles by requiring a decent amount of mandatory information be completed. You cannot skip the basic fields about your appearance, ethnicity and employment. Moreover, you have to write a brief essay about yourself, as well as something about your ideal match. A quick look through a few pages of a sample search seemed to show plenty of photos, and although I cannot guarantee the same for every search, it at least seems promising.

The biggest drawback with the site is the lack of any form of truly local searches. It doesn't matter if you upgrade to a paid membership, so you can access the advanced search options, as you won't get any closer than being able to search by country, province, or state, and select cities, in your results. As previously mentioned, the goal of the site is not necessarily to meet people next door, but instead folks from across the planet. Therefore, it is important to know what you specifically have in mind as far as how far you'd like to travel, or if you'd ever relocate.

Contact methods include email, chat rooms and instant messaging. It is free to reply to emails and instant messages. To initiate messages, or join group chats, you need to be a premium member. Joining up seems more appealing, as you won't simply be limited to chatting with only other paid. As previously mentioned, if you spring for the more expensive of two membership options, your messages, both the ones you send and the ones you receive, can be translated to and from English, Spanish and Portuguese—at least according the upgrade page demo.

What's most important beyond anything else is how popular the site appears to be. I'm not sure of this site's marketing tactics, but I must say I am impressed. As what might be considered a specific niche, enough so to limit scope, this site attracts a healthy dose of visitors. Afro Introductions, with its popularity and ability to contact free members, rocks in my books.
