Date BDSM is supposed to bring together fans of bondage and S&M. It's the kinky side of online adult dating. All the same, at first blush this site isn't much different from any other dating site. You need to dig a little deeper, not just scratch the surface. That's not to say that this site is really that specialized in what it offers or what you can find. You can choose some criteria about sexual practices, which might help in finding that special playmate.
I had better get one issue with the site out of the way first. I know that many surfers are concerned that some sites use fake members to entice them to sign up to a premium account. I must admit that within a minute or two of creating a profile, I received a request to chat and was notified that I was added to this member's hotlist. Keep reading and you'll see that my profile was rather sparse, so this near-instant contact seems a bit suspect.

In the end, it's a moot point in some ways. You see, until you upgrade you won’t really see anyone's full profile anyway. Instead, the site generates automatic descriptions that prompt you to check out some matchmaking details that require upgrading to see. You also cannot see last login info. The site only tells you if someone is online or off, with no reference to the last time the person was active on the site.
You can do local searches using US zip codes. In many other countries, you can choose a state or province and when you do a list of possible cities appears. Obviously, it's great to find some members living locally, but since you can't tell when these folks were last active on the site, it isn't that useful. You can look just for members currently online though.
You must pay to use chat rooms and email. With no way for free members to reply to you even if you upgrade, this site seems limited in how many potential contacts it offers. It also doesn't get many visitors. Date BDSM just isn't popular enough to entice members to upgrade to communicate.
