Jewish Cafe is your place to meet other Jewish singles in an open and friendly environment. No matter what kind of Jewish heritage you have or level of current religious practice you observe, you’ll be able to find like-minded members from all over. Unlike some sites that are specialized, but don't really seem to tailor themselves to their specific audience, you don’t feel like this site is simply pressed out of a mould like all the others. There’s definitely a spirit of community and communication that makes it worthwhile to visit.

Beginning your visit at Jewish Cafe requires filling out a rather extensive profile. Mandatory fields cover a wide range of subjects and guarantee that the profile quality remains high. You have to clearly describe your appearance, personality, hobbies and employment. It’s mostly dropdown menus so despite there being lots of questions, it really doesn’t take too long to fill out.

There are short optional essays you can complete, and I have to comment that in spite of normally disliking short-answer areas on dating sites - usually for being too corny and romantically cliché - this site had some very good subjects about which to write. I think if you actually took the time to complete the whole process you’d have one killer description, giving potential suitors the entire picture.

JewishCafe.com gives you a 14-day free trial with full access to its features. You can enjoy live chat, email and instant messaging. You can also send a limited number of emails without charge, every day, even after the free period has ended. You can keep track of the new connections you make online by making your own personal directory of contacts under the "friends" section.

One drawback in the site's options is that there's no automatic matching system to send you an email notice of potential dates. Another issue that compromises my ability to fully recommend the site is the limited number of visitors it attracts to its pages. Since we last visited, there has been a drop in the number of people checking it out. However, it wouldn't be so bad if you could at least check out who's in your local area and whether they're active members.

There are no local searches, despite rather extensive advanced search options available to everyone. You can only search by board regions within a country, such as state or province, which is really impractical. You can see when a member last visited the site at least down to the hour. Moreover, Jewish Cafe offers an excellent opportunity to completely explore its services before paying dime one, which means it’s great for both dating site veterans or for first-time forays into the field.
