LDate.com claims to be the best, and only, dating site for lesbians around the world. Having recently reviewed another website aimed at the same niche that definitely did not seem to limit its membership to females, I can say that the "only for lesbians" part is right. However, I am not sure if "the best dating site" might not be a tad of an exaggeration. Nevertheless, as is always the case with web personals sites, it has its advantages and disadvantages.

It is free to join. You are required to include a bare minimum of information and it only allows access to women, either gay or bisexual. Straightaway, I appreciate that if you were looking to meet men there are many other sites that would be more appropriate to join than you'd expect L Date to be for that purpose. You can further qualify your status as single, married, divorced, etc. You also need to include a brief write-up about yourself, as well as the person you are looking to meet.

Before upgrading, you are limited to doing basic searches that only include the bare minimum of details. You can, however, return results within 100 miles of your postal or zip code. If you want to refine your results further, you will need to pay for a premium membership. Then you can choose to only look for profiles with pics, for example, and even search by keywords. The biggest thing that changes, as far as I am concerned, is that although you can see full profiles you cannot see the last login date without being a paid member.

There are no message boards, per se, but there are blogs on L Date that allow people to post questions and responses with one another. They do seem relatively active, which is a good thing since other sites may offer a similar service but lack any participation. You can participate in the blogs for free; they are reviewed before postings are approved and can be read by others. It is also free to reply to emails or instant messages from paying subscribers, so that counts in the site's favor.

When it comes to being the best online dating site, where I would really take issue with that claim is in the number of visitors attracted to the site so far. Currently, it does not get much traffic, despite allowing premium subscribers to communicate with all levels of users. I do appreciate that it is a woman-only site, but despite that extra sense of security it just does not seem to be doing that well at attracting new members. In the end, L.Date.com seems somewhat run-of-the-mill. If it ever taps into its niche more effectively, it would show potential.
