Metro Date has urban flair. When it comes to design, it’s maybe not the most edgy with its lavender and amber graphics, but it has some features that are cooler than its colors. They've even added a few new features since our last visit. You don’t necessarily have to be from a major metropolis, but when you fill out your profile, they'll ask you the name of the biggest burg nearby.

It has comic strip appeal, looking larger-than-life with a pop art feel to its interface. I could imagine that if Clark Kent was going to try to meet Lois Lane online he might login to MetroDate. Even if you’re not a part-time superhero in tights, filling out a free profile doesn't require superhuman stamina, like it does on many other sites. There's just enough required information to give someone else a general idea of who you are.

Besides a photo, you also have the option to add a video introduction or a voice recording to your description. What impressed me most is that you are required to provide a photo in order to use their chat feature. I like when a site forces its subscribers to add a picture since it definitely improves the overall quality of the profiles. I should also point out that you can earn two free weeks of premium service by including a video on your profile.

Besides chat rooms, there are message boards. What I like is that each thread lists how many posters are from my area. Guides are available for most major cities in the U.S., Canada and a few international locations. The main homepage of the site after you first sign in always includes a couple of featured profiles from your local area. They may also advertise special pricing deals and promotions, allowing you limited access to some premium features for folks living in your city.

To contact any specific member beyond merely sending a flirt, you may no longer need to upgrade your MetroDate.com account, since currently they offer a new instant messaging service free of charge at least for a limited time and with a limited number of free messages to initiate daily. Even if eventually they require you to upgrade to access this feature, it's always free to reply to messages from paid subscribers.

The site currently offers some low-cost promotional pricing, while its regular price as we've listed on our review is similar to what many other sites charge. Metro Date is worth a look, because you have enough free access to really try it out and it has enough popularity to give you the chance to make a successful connection with someone special.
