Mexican Cupid calls itself "The International Mexican Dating Site" and rightly so, I would say. The first tip-off that it would be headed in that direction is the lack of truly localized searches, so you're not going to easily find someone who lives just down the street. Your results will always cover a radius that can only be limited to a country, state, or province, and city. Beyond that, there are some built-in translation features, which make cross-cultural conversations slightly easier.

The global focus of MexicanCupid.com shouldn't come as a complete surprise, as when you're filling out a free profile you don't provide that much detail about your location. There are dropdowns for country and region, but you are only prompted to type in your city. You're also asked questions that specifically deal with your fluency in English and Spanish. Finally, you must detail whether or not you would consider living in another country.

Replying to instant messages or emails is free. However, to initiate messages, or to participate in the chat rooms, you will need to pay for a premium membership. Some points to take into consideration before deciding whether to pay for the less expensive monthly subscription, or spring for the one that costs slightly more are whether you'd like to see video introductions from other members and whether or not you would benefit from the translation of messages received and sent.

Having found several translation examples among the Spanish language profiles on MexicanCupid, I can tell you that they are rather basic and literal translations. It would appear that they are software-based and as such present all the limitations you might normally encounter with such simplified translations. Some might decide that it's worth it just for the convenience of having the translation service built into your inbox, but you will find similar free translation services online anyway.

Furthering the international sense of the site, there are some free links to travel information sources that can help you find details regarding passports, visas, health, safety and money issues, while traveling abroad in various parts of the world. There is also a section of dating safety tips specifically targeted towards women. Again, these are mostly free links that you could find yourself with just a bit of searching, but they have been organized in a user-friendly manner.

We all know that what wins out in the end as being most important about any dating site is whether anyone actually visits it, or not. That definitely is what makes this site slightly more appealing overall. It isn't super popular, but it does attract enough visitors to give it the potential to work for you.
