Military Love Links has an uphill battle to fight as far as its current level of popularity is concerned. That said, one thing that I noticed that was slightly unusual on my visit was that there were more women online than men. Obviously, such anecdotal evidence proves little, but it's always a good thing to see female members being active on dating sites, since all too often male subscribers seem to participate more than the women do.

MilitaryLoveLinks is part of a larger network of sites. The profile process is the same on this site as it is with the others. That's unfortunate, since its niche is better treated with less of a cookie cutter approach. Other online personals tailored to members of the military have dropdown options covering the branch of the armed forces to which members belong, as well as info regarding where he or she is stationed. Sure, you could include that info in the freeform write-ups, but obviously, since there are no keyword search options, it has limited value.

That brings me to the most crucial flaw on MilitaryLoveLinks.com. There is no ability to perform truly localized searches. You can limit results to a country, state, or province, and a few select cities. That really just doesn't cut it. Even upgrading from free, basic searches to premium advanced options doesn't resolve the issue, since the upgraded version only allows you to search with some additional criteria provided in profiles, other than location.

On a more positive note, there are plenty of contact options for paying members including live chat rooms, instant messaging and initiating emails. It is free to reply to messages, which is worth a mention, since that always improves your chances of meeting someone else online. The platinum level of membership also includes the ability to include video introductions on your profile, as well as view those belonging to other members and exchange video emails, too.

There aren't any message boards, or forums, though, which is somewhat detracting from the sense of community one might get on such a specialized web personals site. You can check who else is online at the same time as you, read some online dating safety info as well as use some third party services to send flowers, or find out about making travel arrangements.

Overall, the site seems to be geared perhaps to people living farther apart, rather than in close proximity. However, a site's greatest strength can be completely hampered by its weaknesses. Military Love Links may offer some great ways to communicate, but with limited visitor traffic and inability to see how active your local area is, this military dating site is shooting itself in its digital foot.
