Real Asian Dates would appear to have an obvious market. You might not presume everyone on the site is Asian. You might think, perhaps, that it was connecting women from Asia with men from abroad. In the end, I didn't find many men or women of Asian descent on the site in my several test searches.

I guess that I find a name like RealAsianDates a bit suspect. Any time someone has to label something "real," it's probably not as genuine as it should be. Besides the issue of not seeing many Asian folks on this site, I encountered something that also seemed a bit unreal. Only seconds after creating my profile, I was invited to chat with someone.

You have to understand that when you sign up to this site, you don't have to supply any info. I only had to provide my age. As appealing as that might be, it doesn't seem as if it's enough to get such immediate attention. The lady in question wasn't even from my location and I would have had to pay to reply to her.

In fact, you have to pay for most of the things on the site. You can do free local searches by US zip codes or by select cities in other locations. That's great, but you won't see any full profiles. Instead, the system generates a description that prompts you to pay to see the person's matchmaking compatibility with you.

I should also state that last login info is never provided on RealAsianDates.com, whether you pay or not. You can only see whether someone is online or offline. That sure makes it difficult to determine how many active members live in your local area.

At least paying does bring you some other features to use, like instant messaging, chat rooms and, of course, email. That brings another issue to mind. It is not free to reply to messages. That's a real pet peeve of mine. I understand that a dating site is a business, so I shouldn't expect to use it free, but it still bugs me.

Once I've paid, my chances of making contacts are greatly improved if everyone on the site can reply to me for free. Popular sites can cut some slack, since many people probably already pay to use their services. However, in the case of this site, you need to take popularity out of the equation. Then when you add in the fact that you can't judge how many local members are active, you end up with a negative result. Real Asian Dates doesn't seem to deliver the chance of "real" dates with anyone of any ethnicity.
