Singles N Motion claims that it offers the most services of any online dating site. As far as I can tell, they're probably right. However, I'm not necessarily sure if offering more extras has really made for a more successful web personals site. It's certainly hasn't helped this one out as far as its limited visitors are concerned.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'm not a bells and whistles kind of guy. I'm not saying that I can't appreciate add-ons that enhance your actual dating experience. I'm just not sure that if it isn't related to dating that I really care whether a feature is on a dating site or not.

SinglesNMotion, for example, does have all the standard services you'd expect to find on a dating site. There are chat rooms, instant messaging and onsite email. However, there is a bit of a catch. You get free access the first 30 days on the site, but you need to contact the site administrator to be classified as an active member.

That isn't really explained anywhere during the signup process, at least no place that I noticed. I had to reply to a verification email in my offsite email to activate my profile. Although I could access some areas, others such as quick searches using zip codes were off limits until I wrote the site admin.

However, I could use features such as internet TV, see music videos and listen to a streaming music station, right away. Again, that might be fun, but you can find some of that stuff free of charge elsewhere. It's not going to help you find a date. There were message boards that related to dating advice, but they were not active as far as the number of postings.

Moreover, I found that when you navigated onto the extra content, or even things such as chat rooms, there was no way back to the main homepage of SinglesNMotion.com. Not even the back-button would work. You had to type in the URL and start all over again.

Anyway, it took about five hours before I received an email confirming my status was switched to active. To me that is probably a huge hindrance to attracting people to join. Adding that extra step, without clearly explaining it, means most people would say forget it and they'd leave if they found their free membership didn't automatically give access to basic things such as localized searching.

The site's owners are concerned that everyone joining be genuine participants on the site. It’s a noble enough endeavor, which unfortunately risks discouraging legitimate members. Singles N Motion should simplify activating accounts and promote its full-access trial period to attract more members.
