True.com seems to take the high road when it comes to meeting singles. They say they check all members against the largest criminal record database available on the Internet, as well as verifying against public records for the marital status of new subscribers. In reality, though, True.com seems to offer more danger for singles than anything else. It promotes itself as guaranteeing safe online connections with quality people yet shrouds itself in mystery until you hand over your credit card. Here’s a closer look at what lurks inside True.com…

True has had the pleasure of reaping the benefits of a huge media campaign. It was one of the first dating sites to come to market promising background checks for felony convictions – which means you can still join with all of those DUI charges you’ve racked up. The attention has certainly brought a ton of members to its doorstep. It has a great Alexa score as a result. However, all of that seems worthless because True doesn’t show new visitors when profiles last logged in, making it impossible to tell if this site has a large active membership in your area or not. Just because you can see lots of members doesn’t mean that they’re visiting regularly and that’s essential in determining a sites value before you join.

You are going to want to be sure True.com is the dating site for you because membership comes at a price. You can start with a “free” trial but they’re going to ask you for your credit card number first. In small writing, they tell you that your membership will automatically start after three days, which is a similar marketing scam that many adult sites pull. Okay, maybe scam is too strong a word, but let’s just say this isn’t the kind of business model you follow if you’re a site that’s trying to take the high road in online dating. Then they drop the bombshell: memberships cost $49.99 per month! You can talk all you want about background checks, but at twice the cost of average dating sites, you had better bringing more than that to the table. And if you think that $50 a month will get you the keys to the kingdom, think again. Signing up for their three-day trial also obligates you to pay about $1 a month for their coaching centre and $3 for their live chat, but you need to read the fine print to see it. A move like that makes it impossible to put our trust in True.

"...when it comes to the primary factors that make a dating site transparent to new users, True falls flat."

People and their profiles make a dating site. True hasn’t clued into this. You aren’t allowed to view profiles until they have your credit card number tucked away. However, even if you do pay, there’s no guarantee that a given profile will be able to contact you back. They would have had to pay, as well. This seems fair until you look at what other leading dating sites are offering. Many let nonmembers reply for free to members who contact them. Shouldn’t your $50 buy you this, at least?

What we can say about True.com is that they’ve built a robust dating site. You can instant message members, visit various chat rooms, check out a really great online magazine and conduct searches for profiles based on keywords you set – in case you’re desperately seeing another person who shares your love of “lawn darts.” All of this is great, but when it comes to the primary factors that make a dating site transparent to new users, True falls flat. I would recommend trying some of the other, less expensive dating sites in the market before giving True a go.

Total scam. Still trying to cancel, still getting runaround, still getting spam ads, and still getting hard-sell abuse by the pathetic Staff on the phone to handle my cancellations. Rating: 0, absolute FRAUD, beware

I give this web site NO points. They are manipulative and screw you out of money. The first time I legitimately used the site I went to cancel and thought I had done so correctly. $150 later they said my account was not cancelled and I had to go through it all again. Two years later, my credit card just called me because they started charging my card again! Chase s fraud department is now inve

Awful site. Took the 7 day trial and got nothing but automated emails. And it s stupid, because you can never tell the difference between which messages are automated, and which ones are genuinely interested in you. There s no online cancellation feature. You have to cancel over the phone, and when you call, they give you a big run around. It s a big racket. Stay away.
